End of Year Letter June 2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Students

Once again, I would like to thank you all for your great efforts in helping everyone manage the crisis and the uncertainty we have all been experiencing over the past few months. As we near the end of the school year, I want to tell you about the arrangements for the beginning of the next academic year.

The latest instruction from the Department for Education is that all students should be back in school from September although when in school students should be kept, as much as possible, in separate year groups or ‘bubbles’.

Many of our Year 10 and Year 12 students have already returned to school and I have been very pleased with the systems we have developed to allow this. In part, the next stage of opening will be a broadening out of these tried and tested structures.

Each year group will have a year zone where they will gather at the start of the day as well as for lunch and breaks. Students will have a specific area of the school where they will have the bulk of their lessons and when students need to move to another area of the school they will do so following a one-way system to minimize contact between different year groups. If students have to use a classroom directly after another year group, the room will be thoroughly cleaned before use.

At the end of the school day, we will dismiss students by year groups and we intend to allow a 5-minute gap between each bubble. For the Upper Site this will mean students will start to be dismissed at 3pm with all students being out of the building by 3.15pm. On the Lower Site Year 7 will initially be dismissed at 3.10pm with Year 8 at 3.15pm.

All students will be expected to wear full school uniform and to restrict the multiple use of general equipment such as pens, calculators and coloured pencils we would ask that your son or daughter bring all the equipment they need for school. Your child will be able to buy equipment from the school at a reduced cost.

To keep students in ‘bubbles’ on the Upper Site we will be serving food at break and lunch in one of three year zones. As a result, the canteen will be serving a restricted menu at breaktime and for the first two weeks of term will only serve sandwiches at lunchtime. Students who are in receipt of a free school meal will receive a packed lunch for this time. The canteen on the Lower Site will be partitioned between the two different year groups and will run as usual.

The start of next year will be the Thursday 3rd September 2020. Year 7 and Year 9 should come to school at 8.30am when they will have some time in school on their own to help familiarise themselves with the new building. All other year groups should be in school for 11am. As in previous years, the new Year 12 will attend for a registration session on 2nd September.

We are looking forward to seeing our current Year 11 and Year 13 students for results days in August. 6th Form results will be given out on Thursday 13th August 2020 and Year 11 results on Thursday 20th August 2020. Students will be able to book a slot to collect their results through an online booking system that will go live this week although any results not collected will be posted home. Mr Holmes will send you more details over the next few days.
