GCSE Results 2018

Students with their resultsFollowing the introduction of new and more difficult GCSE examinations, students at the Royal Harbour Academy have worked hard to achieve a good set of results that are a significant improvement over last year’s outcomes. GCSEs are now graded from a Grade 9 to 1 which corresponds to the old A* to G grades with a Level 4 equating to a C grade.

47% of students gained a Level 4 or better in English while 41% secured a Level 4 or better in Maths. Both the English and Maths Departments doubled the amount of students who gained a Level 4 or better from last year. The amount of students being awarded a Level 4 or better in both subjects nearly tripled from last year with over 30% of all those students who took the exams securing this important benchmark.

Headteacher, Simon Pullen was very pleased with how Year 11 adapted to the new qualifications said, “ The results represent a real improvement over last year and are a product of the hard work of both students and staff. I am proud of all of Year 11 and I wish them well the future.”

There were some very notable results: Jamie-Louise Harkett was awarded 10 passes at GCSE including 4 Level 9 grades, Sophie Ring gained 10 passes, a Level 8 and 2 Level 6 grades while Kieran Bowman secured 10 passes with 3 Level 7s and 3 Level 6 grades.

Paul Johnson, Head of Upper Site said, “As always I would like to say well done to all our Year 11 students who have worked so hard and I am looking forward to many of our students staying with us in our successful 6th Form.”
