The Royal Harbour

Academy

BBC Workshops

On Thursday 19th January, The Royal Harbour Academy welcomed members of the BBC Education team to the school to conduct the second of a series of media literacy workshops with 70 of our Year 9 students. The Royal Harbour Academy was selected as one of the schools to take part in the BBC Other Side of the Story national project.

The focus of this workshop was “how to spot and write a great news story”. This workshop helped students to think like journalists and to be able to spot and write a great news story. During our workshop, students also heard career stories from local BBC staff, who answered questions about securing jobs within the media.

The Other Side of the Story is a new school outreach project from BBC Bitesize, which aims to help KS3 students understand more about misinformation and the news and give them the skills to be able to create their own stories and content.
