Last week, Year 10 students from The Royal Harbour Academy took part in an exhilarating and educational activity known as the 'Race Around Ramsgate'. This unique event saw students set off in teams to solve a series of clues, leading them to various historic and cultural landmarks around Ramsgate. The race concluded at Boundary Park Road, but the journey was packed with challenges and learning opportunities.
The 'Race Around Ramsgate' required students to navigate the town, using their problem-solving skills to decipher clues and reach designated checkpoints. Each landmark held three questions that teams needed to answer correctly to advance. This dynamic blend of physical activity and intellectual challenge made for a memorable day.
In a surprising twist, it was the seventh team to cross the finish line that emerged victorious, having answered all the questions correctly. This aspect of the race underscored the importance of accuracy and thoroughness over mere speed.
Feedback from the students has been overwhelmingly positive. Many expressed that they had a fantastic time exploring Ramsgate and engaging with its history and culture in such an interactive way. The activity not only promoted teamwork and critical thinking but also provided a fun and energetic break from the usual classroom routine.
Assistant Headteacher, Mr Wall, who masterminded the event, exclaimed: “Ramsgate is steeped in history and is such a wonderful place to learn and explore; we wanted our students to value their local community and to see that Ramsgate has so much to offer! I am so proud of our students and their commitment to pushing themselves outside their comfort zone and supporting each other. Our students have once again proven that they are ready, honourable and aspirational”
