Royal Harbour Academy Students Enjoy Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes McDonald's Experience

As part of our ongoing efforts to celebrate student achievement, the Food Technology Department recently organised a special reward trip for students who had been nominated as Head Chef during the school term. Several students had earned this recognition multiple times through their hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm in Food Technology lessons.

The group was treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to McDonald's in Broadstairs, where they were given a unique insight into the day-to-day operations of one of the world's most recognisable restaurant brands.

Upon arrival, students took part in an engaging facts and figures session, where they learned about the scale of the business. They were particularly amazed to discover just how many burgers can be sold in a single day. The visit also included an informative talk about the wide range of career opportunities available within McDonald's, highlighting the many pathways for progression and development.

One of the most exciting activities of the day was a friendly burger-wrapping challenge, where students tested their skills to see who could wrap a burger most professionally. This was followed by a comprehensive tour of the restaurant, including areas usually hidden from public view, giving students a fascinating insight into the kitchen, food preparation processes, and teamwork required to keep the restaurant running smoothly.

The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the opportunity for students to prepare their own lunch under the guidance of the McDonald's team before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

The staff at McDonald's Broadstairs were outstanding throughout the visit. They made the students feel welcome, shared their knowledge with enthusiasm, and ensured everyone enjoyed a memorable and educational experience. Most importantly, they provided a genuine behind-the-scenes look at the restaurant industry, inspiring our students and helping them to better understand the skills and opportunities available within the hospitality sector.
