A group of outstanding students from The Royal Harbour Academy were invited to a day of excitement and adventure as part of a series of end of term rewards trips (Term 4). Years 7 and 8 students enjoyed a day out at Gillingham Ice Rink, while Year 9 to 11 had an afternoon session at Jump Inc, the local trampoline park.
These trips form part of the school’s wider rewards programme, which celebrates students who have embodied our values of being Ready, Honourable and Aspirational.
We believe in recognising the effort and commitment our students show every day. By rewarding and celebrating their achievements, we help to develop a culture of motivation, responsibility, and pride within our school community. Trips like these offer a memorable way to mark the end of term and remind students that making positive choices can lead to exciting opportunities.
At the ice rink, the selected students from Years 7 and 8 eased into skating at their own pace. Some used polar bear skating aids for balance, gradually building confidence with each lap. There were a few tumbles along the way, but what stood out was their determination to get back up and keep trying. By the end of the session, many were proudly skating without support — smiling, laughing, and cheering each other on.
More than just a fun outing, this experience gave students a chance to face challenges and overcome them. Learning to skate helped build resilience, encouraged a growth mindset, and showed students that making mistakes is part of learning something new. The sense of achievement they felt will stay with them long after they leave the rink.
The children’s kindness and positive attitudes also shone through. A parent visiting the rink with his own son approached one of the teachers to share how polite and respectful the children were. He was particularly impressed by how they included his son, chatted with him, and even helped him learn to skate.
Moments like this make us incredibly proud. Our students not only represented the school beautifully, but also showed compassion, patience, and maturity beyond their years. It’s these values that we strive to nurture every day.
Meanwhile, selected students from Years 9, 10 and 11 enjoyed an afternoon at Jump, our local trampoline park. With the venue to themselves, they bounced and flipped their way through an energetic session filled with laughter and high spirits.
For many, it was a chance to try something new, grow in confidence, and make lasting memories with their friends.
Rewarding students in this way not only acknowledges their efforts but also boosts self-esteem and strengthens their connection to the school community.
Mrs Ballard commented, “The students behaved impeccably and it was great to see them enjoy themselves and have lots of fun.”

The school looks forward to running more rewards trips throughout the academic year, aiming to inspire all students to strive for their best.
