On 2nd July, our Year 9 drama students had the profound opportunity to visit Canterbury Christ Church University to watch the deeply moving theatrical performance Voices of the Holocaust. This play told the incredible Holocaust journey of Susan Pollack and was created by the outreach team at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU).
The performance, which brought real-life stories of Holocaust survivors to life, captivated our students from start to finish. Their engagement was evident as they responded with great empathy and maturity to the emotionally charged narratives. Several students were visibly moved, some brought to tears by the raw and heartfelt accounts shared on stage.
This experience provided a powerful educational moment, fostering reflection and a deeper understanding of history’s most harrowing events. Our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the trip and represented The Royal Harbour Academy with pride, respect, and thoughtfulness.
Remembering the history of the Holocaust is vital for our children to understand the consequences of hatred, prejudice, and intolerance. Hearing the personal stories of survivors like Susan Pollack helps to humanise the past, making history real and relatable. These testimonies serve as powerful reminders of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of standing up against injustice. By continuing to share these stories, we ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are not forgotten, inspiring future generations to promote empathy, respect, and vigilance against discrimination in all its forms.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Canterbury Christ Church University for inviting us to this unforgettable performance and for providing such a valuable learning opportunity.
If you are interested in hearing Susan’s story in her own words, please watch her testimony here: https://vimeo.com/387973022.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 drama cohort and grateful for this meaningful experience that has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on them.
