Intent
What is the intent of Business Studies at RHA?
The intent of business studies at Royal Harbour Academy is to equip every student who opts for the subject with the knowledge and skills they need, not only to pass our courses here at RHA, but to inspire them to progress to either university or industry affording them the opportunity to excel in the career of their choice, be it locally or further afield as part of the global community. We intend for students to be happy and enthusiastic when studying business studies, to give them a passion in the subject which they can pursue in their own time. They will be resilient learners who will always be encouraged to hold themselves accountable to the highest possible standards and as a result they will go on to change the world and lead brilliant lives.
Why is this our intent?
It is the business studies strong moral purpose and sincere belief that our students are the ones to raise the ambitions in their community. The department genuinely values all students and believe they can go on to achieve great things, regardless of the context of the local community. It is our intent to make each and every student feel valued and have faith in themselves that they can realise their ambitions and add value to their communities.
How does Business Studies deliver the intent?
As a subject specialist, we deliver this intent by initially selecting the most suitable KS5 qualification for our students. This course is structured so that students will not only be challenged, but will gain a true passion for the subject, by introducing them to practical experiences through role play, visits and guest speakers. Many of the ‘real life case studies’, visits and guest speakers provide a suitable academic challenge; allow for the learning to be put into context; as well as introducing them to the cultural differences in business.
Through the curriculum, students will experience a broad range of topics that build confidence through challenge and leave them well prepared for the business world. Lessons are engaging and inclusive, enabling students of varying ability levels to excel. The curriculum develops students' confidence, resilience and motivation, enabling them to lead productive and successful lives.
Business has only two functions — marketing and innovation; all the rest are costs.
