The Royal Harbour

Academy

Intent

What is the intent of PSHE at Royal Harbour Academy?
The intent of PSHE at The Royal Harbour Academy is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to lead healthy, safe, and fulfilling lives. Central to this is the importance of building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships. We aim to create confident, informed, and empathetic individuals who understand how to make responsible choices, appreciate diversity, and foster healthy relationships in all aspects of their lives.

Why is this our intent?
We believe that learning about relationships, health, and well-being is fundamental to students’ personal development and success. Strong, healthy relationships are the foundation of happiness, resilience, and personal growth, and they are crucial in helping students navigate the complexities of life. By prioritising relationship education, we align with our school’s commitment to ensuring that every student is valued, respected, and prepared to contribute positively to their community.

How does the PSHE department deliver this intent?
The PSHE curriculum at The Royal Harbour Academy is carefully designed by specialists to be comprehensive, engaging, and relevant. Lessons cover a broad range of topics, including emotional well-being, mental health, physical health, online safety, and, importantly, relationship education. Through discussions, role-play, real-life scenarios, and reflective activities, students develop the skills to manage their emotions, communicate effectively, and build healthy relationships. The curriculum is delivered in a safe, supportive environment, ensuring students feel confident to explore and understand the complexities of personal and social issues.
